U.S. 95 northbound open after car fire blocks traffic at Charleston

U.S. Highway 95 northbound at Charleston Boulevard was closed Monday morning after two vehicles caught fire.

Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Jeremie Elliot said a Dodge Challenger struck an unoccupied car parked on the right shoulder of the freeway, causing both vehicles to catch fire. NHP has reported that all lanes are now open again to traffic in the area.

The driver of the Challenger was driving at a speed of 80 mph when it hit the parked car, Elliott said.

One lane reopened to traffic around 12:30, according to the Regional Transportation Commission.

All lanes reopened at 1:30 p.m., said Elliot.

The driver of the Challenger was taken to the hospital with minor burn injuries.
