Coroner identifies one victim in east Las Vegas double homicide

One of two people found dead inside an eastern valley home Friday has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Thomas Dufault, whose manner of death has been ruled a homicide, died of a gunshot wound to the head, the county coroner determined.

The 59-year-old Las Vegas man and his partner, identified by family as Renee Simmons, 58, were found after their nurse and a nonmedical home care provider arrived for a scheduled appointment about 10:40 a.m. Friday on the 4200 block of Vader Avenue. After they knocked and got no answer, police said one of the providers looked through a window, saw a man lying on the floor and called 911.

No arrests had been made in connection with the double homicide as of Saturday evening. Metropolitan Police Department homicide Lt. Dan McGrath also said that detectives found no signs of forced entry or rummaged-through cabinets indicative of a robbery, and detectives did not find a gun during their search of the cluttered home.

The couple’s deaths marked the 215th and 216th homicides investigated by Metro this year.
