Updated June 20, 2025 - 3:03 pm

A 37-year-old Las Vegas man was jailed Thursday after the pickup truck he was driving ran a red light before it struck a woman, killing her, police said.

Angel Franco Merida was arrested Thursday after the 2013 Ram 1500 he was driving struck a 33-year-old Las Vegas woman, a pedestrian, near North Decatur Boulevard and North Rancho Drive, just west of the North Las Vegas Airport, at about 5:15 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County Detention Center booking records.

Police said the truck was going south on Rancho when it went through a red light before striking the woman in a marked crosswalk.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center following the crash, where she later was pronounced dead.

As of Friday afternoon, the woman’s name had not been released by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Merida was arrested on a charge of reckless driving resulting in death or severe injury, police said.

Merida did not show signs of impairment, police said. He was scheduled for an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court Friday afternoon, according to court records.

The woman’s death was the 81st traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction this year, police said.
