Artist to host fundraiser for sister
Artifice Bar, 1025 S. 1st St., will host downtown artist and hairstylist Amanda Fuller, who will show and sell her art to benefit her terminally ill sister Katy, who has an aggressive autoimmune disease. Katy and her husband, James Rugaard, have been a part of the downtown community and local music scene since the ‘90s. The event starts at 5 p.m. Thursday for those 21 and older. artificebar.com

Former “Jersey Boys” conductor Keith Thompson will present the Composers Showcase at The Smith Center at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The monthly event features some of the Las Vegas’ top performers presenting original material in the intimate setting of Myron’s Cabaret Jazz. Professor sets book signing, reading
Poet Angela Ball will read and sign copies of her book “Talking Pillow” from 7-8 p.m. Friday at The Writer’s Block, 1020 Fremont St. Ball is a professor of English at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she directs the Center for Writers.
