Firefly to close Henderson location

Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar owners John and Tabitha Simmons announced Tuesday that they’re closing their Henderson location at 11261 S. Eastern Ave.

The Henderson restaurant was in the news recently after it was issued 38 demerits, and a C grade, following a March 31 inspection by the Southern Nevada Health District. During a reinspection April 4, the restaurant’s A grade was restored.

The original Firefly restaurant at 3900 Paradise Road — which since has moved up the street to 3824 Paradise — was linked to a salmonella outbreak that sickened 300 people in April 2013. After complaints from sickened customers, the health district inspected the restaurant, found 44 demerits, and closed it down. The Henderson restaurant and a location at 9560 W. Sahara Ave. remained open during the Paradise closure. Firefly on Paradise re-opened in the new location in May.

While the Henderson restaurant had received A grades after inspections in February, April and October 2013, inspectors in March found violations that included improper hand-washing and a failure to protect food from potential contamination.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the Simmonses said the closure “will enable us to sharpen our focus on our two highest performing Firefly locations, while at the same time allowing us to refine our newest restaurant concept, Tacos & Beer, to be located at 3900 Paradise Road.”
