A staple of the valley for more than a decade, Hedary’s is well known among established Las Vegans. Stashed in the back of a shopping center behind a large jewelry store, this gem is worth seeking out. In 2013, it was acquired by Cathy Davey and her son, Joey. It may be under new management, but both of them worked for the former owner, and they adhere to the tried-and-true recipes that have patrons returning. Lunch options include varieties of shish kabob, along with frarej (half chicken baked with potatoes and tomato) and kafta (a ground sirloin dish). There are also kibbi (balls of ground sirloin, burghil wheat, onion and pine nuts), mqaniq (Lebanese-style pork sausage) and sujuk (spicy beef sausage). Stuffed grape leaves are served with ground sirloin or vegetarian style. Fans of soup and salad will find 10 types of salad, and simply put, the lentil soup is not to be missed. Six sandwich choices are served with fried potatoes (like french fries but more flavorful) and include shawarma (beef, lamb or chicken), gyro and the Lebanese (a folded pizza). The Hedary’s sandwich can be customized with meat choices. Dinner entrees include shawarma plate (beef, lamb or chicken), hummus ma-lahm with choice of meat, roasted leg of lamb and lamb chops. Leave room for baklava. Hedary’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
