Eastside Cannery’s One Six serves tapas in modern setting

One Six missed the mark by taking the name of its floor number in the new Eastside Cannery, 5255 Boulder Highway. Considering its breathtaking view of the Boulder and Vegas strips, Tapas the World would have been more appropriate.

Tapas, or Spanish appetizers, arrive in plates of two or three per person. (Imparting big taste to the small plates is head chef Ken Torres, formerly of Arizona Charlie's.) Every dish is $9 or less, and all can be sampled for free during happy hour, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The view inside the 11,000-square-foot eatery, designed by Yates Silverman, is impressive, too; more Palms modern than Cannery art deco.

Like the chic ultralounges it emulates, One Six is open only on Fridays and Saturdays, from 5 p.m. until business dies down. Reservations are not required.

Signature dish: Ahi tartar trio, $9

Starters: Beef carpaccio, $9; shrimp cocktail, $9; Mediterranean plate, $9; coconut shrimp skewer, $9; mac and cheese fondue, $9; beef tenderloin sliders, $9; herb pesto and cheese flatbread, $9; grilled cheese bites, $8; house curly fries, $5; fish tacos, $9; grilled sausage sampler, $9; empanada trio, $9

Desserts: Vanilla bean creme brulee, $8; New York cheesecake, $8; tropical sorbet trio, $8
