The Mirage wants you to pay $100 for this lasagna

Diamonds are forever, gold jewelry almost as lasting, but you may consider this holiday season, some diamonds and gold that’s of a more … um … transitory nature. That would be the Diamond and Gold Lasagna being offered through the end of the month at Portofino at the Mirage, for $100.

The basis of the dish is pasta layered with porcini mushrooms, Iberico ham, prosciutto di Parma, 24-month Parmigiano-Reggiano, buffalo mozzarella and Kobe bolognese. In case that’s not rich enough, it’s sauced with “foiefredo,” which is Alfredo infused with foie gras. Topping it off are White Diamond truffles shaved tableside and a sprinkling of 24-karat gold flakes.

The fairy-tale lasagna was created by the restaurant’s executive chef, Michael LaPlaca.
