Uh, oh. Did America just dump Diet Coke?

It looks like Americans are getting over diet sodas, as Pepsi-Cola has bumped Diet Coke out for the No. 2 spot behind Coca-Cola.

In 2014, Diet Coke volume fell 6.6 percent and has a market share of 8.5 percent, allowing Pepsi’s 8.8 percent to sneak ahead, according to a Beverage Digest report.

Diet Coke has been No. 2 in the U.S. since 2010. According to Washington Post, the trend of low-calorie sodas has been on a steady decline. Since 2005, Diet Coke sales have fallen 15 percent, and are expected to have fallen a third since their 2009 peak in 2019.

A growing trend associated with the demise of Diet Coke is the mistrust of artificial sweeteners. Healthy eating came into vogue in the early 2000s, and by 2013, organic food trends were forecasted for growth through the next five years.

So, does Pepsi-Cola deserve the No. 2 spot, or is Diet Coke still the best? Vote below.
