View Dining Pick of the Week: Mint Indian Bistro

Mint Indian Bistro

730 E. Flamingo Road, 702-894-9334

Whether you’re in the mood for a new explosion to the taste buds or a familiar flavor, Mint Indian Bistro has you covered. On the corner of Paradise and Flamingo roads, stuffed inside a humble roadside kitchen strip mall, is a modern fusion of Hindu and Buddhist cultures and culinary palates. Upon entering, a large stone Buddha greets newcomers to a contemporary dining room. Spacious brown leather seating makes a gentle contrast to the light tint of green mint walls. A vast bar masks the back of the space, with multilayered backlighting illuminating the glass bottles crowding the wall. To say the menu is extensive is an understatement: The featured dishes come from all across Asia. There’s pani puri from the streets of Mumbai, puffed puris (unleavened deep-fried Indian bread) filled with spicy mint chutney mix, and thukpa, Tibetan noodle soup. There’s also dosa, which are South Indian crepes made with fermented rice and lentil batter and stuffed with butter, cheese, spices, veggies and/or chicken ($10 to $15), with choices of Mysore (hot and spicy with red chili chutney smeared inside); Paper (thin but super crunchy); and Uttapam (thick and spongey cousins of dosas). The lunch buffet, served daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is $11.99 and $7.99 for ages 4 to 7. It includes salad, soup, pakoda (deep-fried chickpeas paste stuffed with veggies, cheese and meats), idli (fried rice cakes), Bhelpuri (crisp puffed rice), chau-chau (pan-fried Tibetan noodles), chicken stir fry, basmati and tomato rice and naan bread. It features a mix of vegetarian and meat entrees, including vegetable curry, goat curry, chicken tandoori and chicken tikki masala. Dessert options include assorted fruits, pudding with either vermicelli or khir (rice) and gulab jamun or milk solids fried into balls that are lathered in syrup. The children’s menu ($4 to $7) offers chicken nuggets, chicken on a stick, stuffed naan and mini idli. Mint Indian Bistro is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Catering is available.
