View Dining Pick of the Week: Panevino

Panevino

246 Via Antonio Ave., 702-222-2400

For authentic Italian cuisine with a formal dining experience, allow me to gently guide you off the Strip and down East Sunset Road to Panevino. City lights and planes taking off from nearby McCarran International Airport are the backdrop, with the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows providing the view. The elegant dining room features tables and booths, with hanging lights drenched in copper, blown glass decor and a lounge with an illuminated fireplace for the fully stocked bar. Although there also is a bar and lounge with a happy hour menu and a deli cafe with a lunch menu, we sampled from the dining room’s dinner menu, where even the appetizers are lavish (ranging from $8 to $19). Bruschettone ($13 to $14) is ciabatta bread toasted and drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil and two topping options: eggplant and mozzarella or eggplant and artichoke. Maryland-style crab cakes ($19) are served with honey-mustard dressing. Hummus rolls ($14) feature thinly sliced, grilled eggplant rolled with hummus, red cabbage and arugula. Risotto ($28 to $30) comes with short rib, shrimp and scallop or chicken and asparagus. Pasta dishes ($19 to $29) include four-cheese ravioli with ricotta, Provolone, Gorgonzola and mozzarella. Blackened shrimp fettuccini ($27) features large shrimp, grilled crisp in Parmesan cheese sauce. Vegetarian options are available and include ricotta and spinach gnocchi ($26) in a creamy vodka-tomato sauce. Meat entrees ($31 to $43) include ribs (short or ribeye), veal (piccata or osso buco), lemon chicken and filet mignon. For fish dishes ($30 to $50), there is Chilean sea bass, Scottish salmon, ahi tuna, cioppino (traditional fish stew with lobster, salmon, shrimp, scallops, tuna and more) and assorted grilled fish. Desserts (about $10) include sorbets and gelatos, pies and tarts, souffles, pudding, cake and creme brulee. The slightly more affordable lunch menu, served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., also features sandwiches and pizza. The deli cafe is next door and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Panevino is open for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m Monday through Saturday. For more information, visit panevinolasvegas.com.
