M Resort’s Daydream pool caters to locals with clubby atmosphere
July 10, 2009 - 9:00 pm
Daylife, that entertainment concept centered around a hotel swimming pool, was meant to fill in the gaps left by local nightlife, helping clubbers while away the hours until they could hit the dance floors.
But daylife is reaching a pinnacle, says Justin Litterelle, vice president of business development for Las Vegas Nightlife Group and spokesman for M Resort's Daydream pool.
"There's been somewhat of a shift in the last few years. People are coming out strictly for the pool parties and nightclubs are kind of secondary," Litterelle says. "Daylife is now the new nightlife for a lot of people."
Daydream management hopes that the addition of a weekly Wet Grooves event will lend even more of a clubby atmosphere to the pool party by bringing in headliner DJs, celebrity guests and live acts.
"At this point people have come to expect live music, and if you don't have it, you lose the allure of the venue," Litterelle says.
Wet Grooves happens from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays. While Litterelle hopes to attract the fans who follow celebrity DJs, Daydream still plans to focus on its core guest: locals.
Admission is free with local identification, except during special events. Lots of complimentary chaise lounges are available for those who don't want to rent cabanas or daybeds. And you can even reserve them, something that other pool venues don't usually allow.
There also are industry promos which are offered by nearly every pool party in town. It's usually a once-a-week event where competitors are invited to chill at their rival's pool while enjoying exclusive deals. That often means free cabanas or daybeds in addition to food and drink specials.
Litterelle has extended one industry promotion to all guests during weekdays, a two-for-one cocktail special. From 4 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, guests can buy any two drinks for the price of one. That includes pitchers of mojitos and other specialty cocktails. Two pitchers cost $50.
Daydream was already locals friendly; extending promotions such as this will make it even more so, Litterelle says.
The pool party still has a backyard atmosphere to it, Litterelle says, with staff passing out water guns, free tequila shots and frozen fruit. Guests are encouraged to partake in beer pong, bocce and other games.
M Resort is located at 12300 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The pool is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Guests must be 21 or older. Cover charge for tourists is $20. Cabana rentals cost $500 and daybeds $350. To make reservations, call 797-1808.
