Tigers, elephants will perform feats at Zelzah Shrine Circus
From the roar of the tigers to the roar of motorcycles, the Zelzah Shrine Circus will fill the Orleans Arena with drama and fun Thursday through Sunday.
This year’s show features new music, costumes and feats from a variety of performers, according to founder George Carden.
“We’re bringing a big show, the biggest we’ve ever put together. The spirit of the circus is to top anything and everything, each year,” he said in a statement.
Among the scheduled animal performers is Broadway Bo, billed as “The World’s Largest Performing Elephant.” The 5-ton elephant will perform “feats of precision.” A group of dancing elephants also is in the cast. Tigers will add tension as they spar with trainer Michael Ramos.
Chinese performers add human precision to the show. Guiming Meng will present his distinctive balancing act, while the Eight Guys will perform acrobatic feats.
“Motorcycle Madness” will feature derring-do on wheels.
Not to be outdone, David Smith Jr. will blast off as the Human Cannonball, soaring freestyle through the air.
Ticket prices are $18 for general admission, $27 for “spectacular” seats, $45 for ringmaster seats and $65 for “circus star” seats that include a meet and greet with circus stars among other perks. Buy one adult ticket, get one child ticket coupons are available for general admission and spectacular seats. Children younger than 2 will be admitted free but must sit in the parent’s lap. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday; 8 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. and 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. and 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Gates open an hour before showtimes.
The Shrine Circus is a fundraising arm for the Zelzah Shrine Temple, which performs a variety of community-based service projects as well as other philanthropic endeavors.
