Explore the Mountain’s Edge Community and support children battling cancer today

Activities are off to an early start Saturday at the Mountain’s Edge, as the local nonprofit Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada holds its largest fundraiser, the Superhero 5K with Chet Buchanan, at Exploration Park.

Early-risers can still participate by registering for the race and walk today between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. or coming to show support for participants and cancer survivors. Superhero costumes — and well-behaved leashed pets — are welcome. The race starts at 8 a.m., walk at 8:15 a.m., and festivities until 11 a.m. Activities include a kids area with a bounce house and games, bone marrow drive hosted by Be The Match, awards ceremony for timed runners, food, refreshments and raffle prizes.

Attendees have the opportunity to experience Mountain’s Edge and learn why the 3,500-acre master planned community in southwest Las Vegas has been ranked among the country’s best-selling communities.

The 80-acre Exploration Park features an Old Western village, Native American play structures, archaeological dig area, splash pad, picnic areas, and the 2,846-foot-tall Exploration Peak with hiking and cycling trails and panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley. The community also has parks, trails, open spaces and public facilities. Paseos connect residents to the recreation areas, including Nathaniel Jones Park, Clark County’s Mountain’s Edge Regional Park, Exploration Park and Paiute Park, which opens later this month. Desert landscaping is incorporated throughout, enhancing the natural beauty of the area.

Superhero runners and walkers will pass several of the master plan’s neighborhoods along their route, but everyone is invited to tour the community. While Mountain’s Edge is nearing closeout after beginning in 2004, there are still opportunities to become a resident of this mature master plan with well-appointed floor plans by the industry’s top builders.

For example, Sage Canyon by Century Communities is offering savings for move-in ready homes that can save homebuyers as much as $15,000. The neighborhood offers single- and two-story floor plans with an optional courtyard or covered patio.

The Gardens at Denali by KB Home and Monterey Ranch by Lennar are gated communities, each with its own — the latter with several quick move-ins — and spacious backyards.

CalAtlantic provides a variety of options for homebuyers with Beacon Hill, a townhome community; Quintessa, a gated community with a pool, spa, fitness center and clubhouse; and Tacinga Ridge, a gated single-family home community with the option of signature rooftop decks.

Mountain’s Edge is at 9725 S. Buffalo Drive (corner of Buffalo and Blue Diamond Road). Exploration Park is just south of the main community entrance. For information, call 702-898-5777 or visit www.mountainsedge.com.
