Clark County school police officer accused of stealing from school

A Clark County School District police officer was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the theft of camera equipment from West Career and Technical Academy.

School police had been investigating the theft of the cameras and possibly other materials since Monday, following the report of a burglary at the school over the weekend.

Police arrested 56-year-old Sgt. Robert J. Griffin, who was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of burglary, according to school police. Police declined to release additional details of the crime, citing the ongoing investigation.

Griffin was suspended without pay pending the resolution of the criminal charges. He has worked in the district’s police department since 2006, assigned to the operations division.

Griffin’s salary in 2017 was $81,052, according to Transparent Nevada.

Police on Wednesday said there appeared to be no forced entry to the school and speculated that the burglar used a key or entered the school through unlocked doors.

The most recently reported arrest of a school district employee for theft occurred in April, when police accused a Tate Elementary special education teacher of pawning school iPads.
