1 injured, at least 1 displaced after car plows into east valley apartment

One person was injured and at least one person was displaced Tuesday afternoon when a car plowed into an east valley apartment.

The car slammed through a gate and into a unit at 4801 E. Sahara Ave., near the Nellis Boulevard intersection just after 1:30 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said. One person was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.

It was unclear Tuesday night whether anyone was inside the apartment during the crash, which crushed one of the unit’s walls and left damaged appliances exposed to the peering eyes of passers-by.

Meltzer said others who lived at the apartment building may have been displaced for the evening as officers waited to extract the car.

“It caused major damage,” she said that afternoon of the crash. “We have to get building inspectors to make sure the building is safe before we pull the vehicle out.”
