10 people displaced after fire damages 4 condos in east Las Vegas

An early morning condominium fire in the eastern valley has displaced 10 people and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Just after 1 a.m. Thursday, the Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a fire at 4317 Devlin Green Court, near the intersection of Lamb and East Charleston boulevards, department spokesman Tim Szymanski said. Responding firefighters found four condominiums ablaze along with several trees, which intensified the fire, he said.

“It took firefighters 45 minutes to bring the fire under control,” Szymanski said. “After 15 minutes they doused enough of the fire to make entry into each of the four condo units.”

Three of the condominium units were occupied and one was vacant and boarded up, he said. Neighbors told the fire department that the vacant unit had been occupied in the past by squatters.

Neighbors told the Fire Department that the fire began in the courtyard between the condos and spread to the four units.

“When the fire first started, they said squatters were running out of the one unit,” Szymanski said. “Occupants in the other units woke when the heat of the fire broke windows to their units.”

The fire spread to all four units with the vacant unit sustaining the most damage, Szymanski said. The cost of damage was estimated at $200,000; no injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross helped four adults and six children displaced by the fire. The Clark County Fire Department also assisted with the fire.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
