3 face charges in 12 Las Vegas store robberies

Two brothers and a woman have been arrested in connection with a string of June store robberies, Las Vegas police said on Tuesday.

The 12 robberies, at grocery and convenience stores, happened throughout the valley in June, July and August police said.

Darian Christopher Owens, 25, Tevin Tyree Owens, 21, and Precious Carroll, 24, face charges including robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon.

On Aug. 5, police received an anonymous tip that Darian Owens had been bragging about robbing several Las Vegas businesses. The anonymous tipster called a day later to retract the information and say that Darian Owens wasn’t actually involved in the robberies.

But detectives did not rule out Owens as a suspect. Instead, they set up surveillance at Darian Owens’ last known address, which they confirmed belonged to his mother.

Officers followed Darian and Tevin Owens and Carroll as they drove a red Toyota Prius from store to store early Monday morning as they cased three possible robbery locations.

Just before 3:30 a.m., Metro officers followed the three suspects to a Rebel gas station in the 7100 block of West Craig Road. Carroll told police in an interview that she drove the car into a nearby neighborhood where the brothers got out of the moving vehicle and jumped a wall into a resident’s backyard.

Carroll stayed with the car and was arrested.

Though Darian Owens denied entering the house, Tevin Owens confirmed the homeowner’s claims that both male suspects entered his home through the back door. The homeowner fled through the front door, and the suspects went into the backyard where Tevin was attacked by a police dog and both men were arrested.

Officers recovered a stolen gun, money and clothing linked to footage of a previous robbery, police said.

The trio had court appearances Tuesday morning and are being held in the Clark County Detention Center, records show. Bail was set at $82,000 for Darian Owens and Carroll and $102,000 for Tevin Owens.
