3 people wounded in shooting near Clark High School

Three people were hospitalized after a Friday evening apartment complex shooting near Clark High School, Las Vegas police said.

Officers responded at 6:18 p.m. to a shooting at 4155 Tara Ave., near South Valley View Boulevard and Pennwood Avenue. One man suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and another man was wounded in the stomach, said Metro spokeswoman Lt. Yaz Yatomi. The man shot in the buttocks is in critical condition, police said.

The men, in their 20s, were taken to University Medical Center, Yatomi said.

A third person police say was involved in the shooting, a female whose age was not immediately available, was dropped off at UMC with a gunshot wound shortly after the others were transported by ambulance, Yatomi said. She could not say where the female had been shot or what her condition was.

The initial investigation indicates that two groups of people were in an argument when a person from the first group left, returned with a gun and shot at the second group. That group returned fire, Yatomi said.

The crime scene spanned several blocks and police recovered numerous shell casings of different calibers, Yatomi said. No suspects were in custody Friday night, but police said a black SUV was seen fleeing the area.

The individuals taken to UMC denied knowing each other, Yatomi said.

The apartment complex is less than a half-mile from Clark.
