3-year-old dies from Monday drowning in North Las Vegas

A 3-year-old girl died Tuesday morning from a drowning that occurred Monday night in North Las Vegas, police said.

About 8 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 1100 block of Spottswood Avenue about an unresponsive child who was found in a swimming pool, the North Las Vegas Police Department said in a statement. Medical personnel arrived and took the 3-year-old child to University Medical Center Pediatrics, where she was listed in extremely critical condition.

Law enforcement officials were advised Tuesday morning that the child died at the hospital.

The statement said the investigation shows the people at the residence were having a Fourth of July party where several people were swimming in the backyard pool. Witnesses said the 3-year-old was one of many people in the pool. It was reported that she was unresponsive when she was retrieved from the bottom of the pool.

No charges have been filed, police said. The case is under investigation.
