Arrest made in Henderson apartment shooting

A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection to a Monday shooting that wounded a man at a Henderson apartment complex, the city announced Thursday.

Mark Anthony Ames, 26, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting of 28-year-old Kendall James Smith, who was found lying outside of his apartment with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said Thursday.

Officers responded about 5 p.m. Monday to the apartment complex, near Eastern and Coronado Center Drive, where police believe three men approached Smith inside his apartment and one of them shot him with a handgun. It appears the shooting resulted from an attempted robbery, police said.

Smith was taken to Sunrise Trauma Center.

Ames is being held at the Henderson Detention Center. He faces charges of attempted murder, attempted robbery, burglary with a gun and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Henderson police at 702-267-4750 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit www.crimestoppersofnv.com. Tips directly leading to an arrest through Crime Stoppers may result in a cash reward.
