Authorities ID shooter, man killed in Thursday shootout

The man who died during a shootout Thursday morning at an apartment complex near Decatur Boulevard and Vegas Drive and the man who police say shot him were identified on Friday.

Arnoldo Hermosillo, 25, of Las Vegas, and another man were shot in the 4600 block of Vegas Drive about 5:30 a.m., police said. The other man was taken to University Medical Center in “very critical condition.” Police later said his wounds were not life-threatening.

Hermosillo died from a gunshot wound to the stomach, the Clark County coroner’s office said.

Jabron Carr, 30, was arrested in connection with the shootout that started with a fight inside an apartment after a related four-hour standoff with a SWAT team, according to Las Vegas police.

Investigators offered no detail on how the fight started, but said they were called to the Andiamo Apartments on Vegas Drive after shots were fired.

There, police said they found Hermosillo, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and another man suffering from gunshot wounds. The other man was taken to UMC.

During the fight in the apartment, police said, Carr struck another man on the head and face with a handgun. Carr, along with two other men, then walked away from the apartment.

A neighbor who saw the fight, later identified as Hermosillo, confronted those three men and fired on them with an assault rifle, striking one in the ankle. Two men ran away as Hermosillo continued to shoot at them.

Carr then shot Hermosillo, fatally wounding him, police said.

Carr later barricaded himself inside a home in the 1700 block of Yellow Rose Street, about a tenth of a mile from Andiamo Apartments, which led to a standoff with a Metro SWAT team. Carr surrendered to police about four hours later.

This is the 95th homicide in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014.
