Booker school lockdown over; false alarm

A Las Vegas elementary school was on lockdown briefly Thursday afternoon while police investigated reports of a person with a gun in a parked car near the front of the school.

Metro responded at 2:22 p.m. to Booker Elementary School, 2277 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., near Carey Avenue, where a caller told police they saw a person with a gun inside of a car, according to Metro spokesman Jesse Roybal.

About 40 minutes later, police at the scene said the call was a false alarm.

It originally appeared that the call was related to a crime committed at the school, and that the person had left by the time police arrived, Roybal said.

The school was on lockdown starting just before 2:30 until 2:51 while Metro and Clark County School District police investigated, Roybal said.
