Cirque performer injured in ‘Love’ finale

A Cirque du Soleil performer is doing well following an injury during The Beatles “Love” show finale at The Mirage on Monday night, a show spokeswoman said.

It was not immediately clear what happened, but the performer was hospitalized and has since been released in “good condition,” spokeswoman Ann Paladie said Tuesday.

Performers are hospitalized due to Cirque protocol, Paladie said.

During the show’s finale, artists parade around a circular stage waving and dancing to The Beatles’ “All You Need is Love” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Trapeze artists glide across the stage attached to safety lines as confetti and streamers fall.

The next performance is scheduled for Christmas.

A Cirque du Soleil aerialist died during a fall during the performance of “Ka” at MGM Grand last year.

Sarah Guillot-Guyard, 31, died when she fell 94 feet after the wire from which she was suspended broke. The show and the hotel were cited for a total of nine safety and record-keeping violations.

Guillot-Guyard’s death has since been the only death the Canadian-based company has ever suffered during a show in its nearly 30-year history.
