Construction worker crushed to death in Las Vegas

A construction worker was crushed to death near Flamingo Road and Town Center Drive on Saturday, Las Vegas police said.

First responders were called to a construction site on Granite Ridge Drive about 2 p.m., spokeswoman officer Laura Meltzer said.

A man was in a trench when heavy equipment crushed him, Clark County Fire Chief Jon Klassen said. He was declared dead at the scene. It took crews "some time to recover the body," Meltzer said.

The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration took over the investigation. The man who died will be identified by the county coroner's office. It wasn't immediately clear what type of construction was taking place.
