Crash closes Flamingo near Maryland Parkway; motorcyclist ’ very critical’

A man was critically injured Monday afternoon in a motorcycle crash near UNLV, Las Vegas police said.

Just after 1 p.m., 58-year-old motorcyclist Alvin Willingham was headed west on Flamingo Road, approaching Escondido Street, near Maryland Parkway, when a car turned left in front of him, Las Vegas police said. The motorcycle hit the back of the car, throwing Willingham onto the roadway. The car rotated and slid to a stop.

A second motorcyclist, who witnessed the crash, stopped their bike next to the crash to help.

Willingham was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in “very critical” condition. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

Flamingo was closed in both directions, near Maryland for several hours.
