Firefighter T-shirt fundraiser: The Las Vegas Firefighters are selling T-shirts to raise money for the Movember Foundation, which raises awareness for men's health issues and supports projects that fight prostate and testicular cancer. Firefighters will wear the shirts on and off duty all month long and grow mustaches. Movember shirts will be sold within the organization and to the public through Nov. 15 on heroic.supply. Both men and women's T-shirts are available for $20 and a long-sleeve style is also available for $25. All proceeds will be donated to the foundation. Visit lasvegasfirefighters.com.

Small claims class: Nevada Legal Services plans to offer the free session at 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at 530 S. Sixth St. Topics are to include reclaiming security deposits, appealing small claims decisions and preparing for court. The event is set to include a question-and-answer segment. Rapport Teen Leadership Informational Meeting: The event is planned from noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Metropolitan Police Department's headquarters, 400 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. The event, put on in conjunction with Rapport Leadership International, 5735 S. Sandhill Road, Suite A, is geared to empower teens and help them develop self-confidence, focus, enthusiasm, communication skills, good character traits and accountability. AARP smart driver class: The session is slated from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 17 inside the Medical Office Building at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Attendees must pay the sum using a check or money order payable to AARP. They also must bring their driver's license, their AARP membership card and a pen or pencil. Light refreshments are set to be served. Metro volunteer program: The topic is set to be discussed during a free safety forum planned at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Mob Museum, 300 Stewart Ave. The event is offered in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Department. Tropicana Avenue upgrade: The Nevada Department of Transportation plans to upgrade East Tropicana Avenue between Eastern Avenue and Boulder Highway from January through fall 2016. The $7.67 million upgrade is slated to include new asphalt pavement, raised median islands and widened sidewalks. The project is aimed at preventing additional roadway cracking and deterioration and providing pedestrian enhancements, the department said. State Route 160 upgrades: The Nevada Department of Transportation plans the $794,000, 21-mile project through early January in Clark County to improve cable median barriers. The project is set to create 14 new paved median crossovers between mileposts 22 and 43.16 to allow emergency personnel to safely cross the highway as needed. Visit nvroads.com.

Fighting breast cancer: The Henderson Professional Fire Fighters teamed up with the Henderson Firefighter Benevolent Association to raise roughly $3,500 to donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Firefighters sold Go Pink for the Cure T-shirts within the organization and to community members through October to raise the money. Henderson firefighters also wore the shirts throughout October to show their support for the effort. The Henderson Mayor and City Council proclaimed Oct. 20 as Go Pink for the Cure Day to recognize the organizations' efforts.

Workshop to help neighbors resolve disputes: A free workshop offered by the city of Henderson is set to provide neighbors with tools to communicate peacefully and resolve disputes. The session is slated from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway. Participants can learn tips on how to approach a neighbor about an issue and resolve it without conflict. Information about the city's free mediation program will also be available to help resolve neighborhood disputes, such as those involving barking dogs, overhanging landscaping and noise concerns. Fighting fraud: Houldsworth, Russo & Co. plans a breakfast briefing titled How to Protect Your Organization from Fraud at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at 8675 S. Eastern Ave. The discussion is scheduled to cover fraud schemes, recognizing vulnerabilities and strengthening internal controls to mitigate risk. The event is free for clients and $35 for others. Henderson Fire Department offers women's class: The Henderson Fire Department will be offering a three-day class for women interested in a career as a firefighter. Women in the Fire Service is set to start from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov 6 and continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8 at the Henderson Fire Training Center, 401 Parkson Road. There is no cost to attend. Class attendees will also be eligible to earn three college credits from the College of Southern Nevada if they complete an optional 25 hours of online coursework. These credits can be applied toward a degree in the Fire Science Program. Class attendees must be women who are at least 18 years old. Space is limited, and registration is required.
