Dining pick of the week: Sakun Thai

1725 E. Warm Springs Road at Spencer Street, 270-2899

Curry is an acquired taste, and no two are alike. Sakun Thai is a good place to acquaint yourself with curry. All varieties come with a choice of meat (chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, tofu, vegetarian or seafood). Red curry is red chili paste, coconut milk, bamboo and bell pepper. Green has green chili paste, coconut milk, green beans, bamboo, eggplant and sweet basil, while yellow has potatoes and carrots. Other entrees include asparagus shrimp, orange chicken, tofu delight, ginger chicken, Thai-style barbecue chicken, Chinese broccoli with crispy pork, spicy beef bamboo mint, and pan-fried mixed vegetables. Among the salads are seafood, papaya, eggplant, Thai beef and pia goong, large shrimp with lemongrass in spicy chili paste dressing. There are soups (white cabbage, beef boat, duck and egg noodle, spicy seafood) and noodle dishes such as pad Thai, chow mein and pad woon sen, glass noodles with choice of meat, fried egg, onion, cabbage, snow peas, carrots and tomatoes. Popular seafood entrees are spicy catfish, deep-fried pompano, tilapia with mango sauce and lobster tail. Lunch specials ($6.50) are served daily. Curry dishes begin at $7.95, as do most entrees. Sakun Thai is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. - Jack Bulavsky
