Favorite Sons & Daughters Aug. 13-19

Hanna Lee, 13, won a bronze medal in the 2013 USA Fencing National Championship in Columbus, Ohio, June 28 to July 7.

Lee won the medal in the Youth 14 Women’s Epee category.

She has been fencing at the Fencing Academy of Nevada for four years.

Lee, who will be an eighth-grader at Challenger School this fall, is the daughter of Kwang and Jin Lee of Las Vegas.

Amanda Han (8th Junior Women’s Epee) and Zachary Zellar (5th Cadet Men’s Epee), who are also students at the Fencing Academy, received medals during the tournament.

Samuel Winstead, an Army Ranger with the 101st Airborne Division, has returned to the United States from Afghanistan, where he was deployed since August 2012.

He was a platoon leader for a route clearance team that performed search and removal of improvised explosive devices, clearing roadsides for traffic.

Winstead, a 2007 graduate of Spring Valley High School and a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, will be stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky as an executive officer of an intelligence company while he waits for his next deployment.

Adonis Oldenburg III, 20, has graduated from Army basic military training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

He is now in advanced individual training in Fort Eustis, Va., studying to be a Kiowa helicopter mechanic.

A 2012 graduate of Bonanza High School, Oldenburg is the son of Donnie and Staci Oldenburg of Las Vegas.

Henderson Leitch has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Centennial High School, Leitch is the son of Conda Parsley and stepson of Rick Parsley of Las Vegas.

Timothy Weir has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Nevada State High School, Weir is the son of William Weir of Henderson and Michelle Graebner of Hutchinson, Kan.

Virgil Rask has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2009 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School, Rask is the son of Virgil Rask Sr. of Las Vegas.

Rachel De Vera and Jan Wicha, both of Henderson, and Thomas Manzini and Jeanette Zeeb, both of Las Vegas, have been named to the dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., for the spring 2013 semester.

Austin Harper of Las Vegas has graduated from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., with a Bachelor of Science degree in applied exercise science.

Marina Herrera of Henderson has graduated from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

Candis Ware of Las Vegas has graduated from Walsh College in Troy, Mich., with a Master of Business Administration degree.

Jafet Cruz has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Cruz is the son of Norma Rodriguez of Las Vegas.

Alexey Minevskiy of Las Vegas has been named to the dean’s list at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., for the spring 2013 semester.
