Run to increase your health and fitness. Strengthening of the cardiovascular system occurs due to the increase in heart rate and intensity. During exercise the muscles require more oxygen, thus the heart pumps faster and harder. This strengthens the intensity of each heartbeat. Therefore at rest, the heart beat is stronger and occurs at a slower pace.
