Dawn L. Walker, who served in the Army from 1974 to 1977, was the recipient of Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas’ Women Honoring Women Who Serve award. She was recognized in April at a special dinner at the Soroptimist International of the Americas Sierra Nevada Region 38th Annual Conference in Reno.

Brand and issue profiler Stan Friedman won the 2014 Corporate Branding Campaign of the Year award for Sabra Dipping Company on behalf of Seymour Public Relations in the communications industry’s PRWeek Awards 2014.

The National Society of High School Scholars has extended an offer of membership to Zharia White of Palo Verde High School for her outstanding academic achievements.

Trevor Seegmiller, 22, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Seegmiller is the son of Deborah and Chad Seegmiller and husband of Karla Seegmiller, all of Las Vegas. He is a Shadow Ridge High School graduate.

Air Force Airman Paul A. Bunkley graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Bunkley is the son of Justin and Heidi Cottam of Henderson and is a 2011 graduate of Basic High School.

Robert Kale Shawhan, 22, graduated from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. He is the son of Donna Knoll Shawhan.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Kimberly A. Toole graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Toole is the daughter of Maureen A. Almeyda of Henderson. She earned an associate degree in 2005 from College of Southern Nevada, Henderson.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Richard M. Sorensen graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Sorensen is the son of Misty M. Sorensen of North Las Vegas and Rick Junkin of St. Louis.

Diane Lyn Fortier, 33, graduated as a pharmacy tech with honors from Kaplan College. Fortier is the daughter of Deborah Sizemore of Las Vegas. She also graduated with high honors as a medical assistant from Kaplan College in 2013.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada announced that Yvanna Cancela has been chosen to receive the 2014 Emilie Wanderer Civil Libertarian of the Year award. Cancela is the political director at Culinary Workers Union Local 226 of UNITE HERE. The ACLU of Nevada is honoring Cancela for her leadership on immigrants’ rights issues, her work coordinating a statewide campaign in Nevada for comprehensive immigration reform and for standing up for worker rights.

John David Cartier of Las Vegas graduated from Concordia University in Seward, Neb., on May 10.

Nathaniel Grimes of Henderson graduated from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C., on May 10.

Lauren Alexis Perry of Henderson graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on May 9.

Oregon State University plans to hold its 145th commencement June 14 in its Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Ore. Local students scheduled to graduate include: Christy Graviet, Jong G. Lim, Jennifer A. Lyons and Calli A. Zitzer, all of Las Vegas.

The following students graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., on May 11: Rosa Cordova of North Las Vegas and Tanner Hernandez of Las Vegas.

Todd Worton of Henderson graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on May 16 and 17.

Jacklynn Endsley of Las Vegas graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., on May 18.

Nicole Simpson of Las Vegas was named to the fall 2014 Dean’s List at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va.

Matthew R. Dellasala of Las Vegas graduated from Clemson University in Clemson, S.C., on May 9.

Conor Fitzpatrick of Henderson graduated with a Juris Doctor from the School of Law at University of Detroit Mercy on May 9 and 10.

Jamie McDowell graduated from Arizona State University and was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List. McDowell was home-schooled throughout high school in Las Vegas.

Christina McDowell, a freshman nursing major from Las Vegas, was named to the fall 2013 honors list at Oxford College of Emory University in Oxford, Ga. McDowell was home-schooled throughout high school with her three siblings and was a member of the Las Vegas Christian Homeschool Association.

Christopher Cunningham of North Las Vegas graduated from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., on May 17.

Andreis Castronova of Henderson was named to the spring 2014 Dean’s List at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.

Air Force Airman Zachary D. Davin graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Davin is the son of Shane R. Davin of North Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Legacy High School.

The following local students graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., May 17: Pedro Cisneros, Hamed Emamzadeh, Remi Turok and John Walker, all of Las Vegas.

Air Force Airman Eivan Jethro N. Alinea graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Alinea is the son of Eugene and Ophelia Alinea and grandson of Edgardo and Consorcia Alinea of North Las Vegas. He is a 2012 graduate of Canyon Springs High School.

Air Force Airman Edward W. Martindale graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Martindale is the son of Carolle L. Martindale of Reno and Kenneth J. Martindale of Las Vegas. He is a 2012 graduate of Pahrump Valley High School.
