Drug, prostitution deal led to double-shooting in November

The execution-style shooting of a man and woman in November was prompted by drug and prostitution deals gone awry, police documents show.

Jamel Colbert sent Shelby Robinson, 21, to have sex with Marcial Manuel Casarez, 36, "to settle a drug debt" on Nov. 16, the same night the two were found shot and killed in a stolen vehicle, Casarez's arrest report said.

Casarez, who also goes by "Crook," had made drug deals with Colbert, 32, before and was going to sell him $200 worth of methamphetamine.

Colbert gave Robinson a black revolver and sent her to Casarez's apartment in the 2100 block of Sunrise Avenue, near 21st Street. "'Crook' became upset" when he found the gun in Robinson's purse and thought she was going to rob him, the report said.

Colbert left his home in the 2100 block of Ballard Drive just before dark and arrived at Casarez's apartment shortly after he found the gun. Casarez gave the gun to Sergio Davila, who took Colbert and Robinson's money, phones and clothes.

Casarez then told Jose Navarro to shoot Colbert and Robinson, but he refused.

Casarez grabbed a rifle, led Colbert and Robinson outside at gunpoint, forced them into the car and ordered Navarro to drive to the alley behind the Ballard home.

Navarro parked, got out and started to walk away when he heard Robinson scream "No, no, no," he told police. He turned and saw Casarez shoot Robinson "at least 10 times" in the back seat, turn the rifle on Colbert in the passenger seat and fire multiple rounds through the window.

Robinson and Colbert were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads.

Navarro and Casarez were picked up in a car and taken back to the apartment complex by a woman Navarro said he didn't know.

Davila ran from the complex and jumped into a car with Navarro. Police pulled them over about 5 p.m. and arrested Davila on charges related to stolen documents found in the trunk and having a weapon as a felon, his arrest report said.

Casarez was arrested Dec. 9, after Metro interviewed Navarro and several others who saw Colbert Nov. 16.

Casarez and Davila were indicted Wednesday on charges of murder, first-degree kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Their arrest reports did not say whether Navarro was arrested. He was not listed in Clark County Detention Center logs Thursday.
