Flavor Flav completes counseling in domestic violence case

Rap icon Flavor Flav has completed the counseling required in his misdemeanor domestic violence case, his lawyers said in court Monday.

After pleading guilty, William Drayton, the rapper’s real name, was ordered to complete 12 counseling sessions before the case was closed. The charges stemmed from a 2012 incident with his then 17-year-old stepson, Gibran Trujillo, whom Drayton threatened with a knife.

Drayton, who did not appear in court Monday, planned to continue counseling, which he had to finish this month, said his attorneys, Kristina Wildeveld and Dayvid Figler.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty in April to attempted battery with substantial bodily harm, a gross misdemeanor, and battery constituting domestic violence, a misdemeanor.

Drayton originally faced felony charges for the Oct. 17, 2012, incident, which occurred after an argument with the teen’s mother, Elizabeth Trujillo. The three have since reconciled.

Drayton and his hip hop group Public Enemy were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
