Former Nellis airman gets probation in child neglect case

A former master sergeant at Nellis Air Force Base was sentenced to three years probation Thursday on child neglect charges.

District Judge Abbi Silver ordered Robert Stone, who served in Iraq, to serve the first six months of his sentence in the Clark County Detention Center.

During the sentencing hearing, the victim said Stone, who pleaded guilty in March to child neglect or endangerment with substantial bodily harm, had sexually abused her in 2010 and given her drugs that made her black out. The victim first made the allegations to a school counselor, according to court records.

“I was manipulated into being this little girl that he could use and abuse however he wanted provided it suited him,” she said in court.

Silver gave Stone a suspended sentence of two to eight years, and ordered that he have no contact with minors or the victim in the case while on probation.

Silver called the case “very difficult,” saying she sympathized with the victim and that the court would follow the negotiation between prosecutors and Stone’s attorney.

“Neither side walks away happy from what’s occurred in this case,” Silver said.
