Kit fox family makes a home at Las Vegas shooting range — PHOTOS

A family of kit foxes picked an interesting spot to make their home — the Clark County Shooting Complex.

The foxes, a mother and three pups, have moved in behind the backstops at the complex’s 200-yard range, which has been closed until the foxes move out.

“It makes you wonder,” said Steve Carmichael, supervisor of the complex located at 11357 N. Decatur Blvd. “It’s probably the safest place they can be. It might be a planned action.”

Coyotes are the biggest danger to fox pups, but they steer clear of the area where the skulk of foxes has settled in because it isn’t easy for them to access.

Carmichael said the pups appear to be 4-5 weeks old, and probably lived behind the backstop for about that long before they were discovered by a spotter at the complex. Staff at the complex are keeping an eye on the area behind the backstop so the range can reopen once the foxes leave.

“We’ve seen them up and moving around so they’ll probably move on soon,” he said. “Hopefully they’ll make it out in the wild.”

The 50- and 100-yard ranges at the shooting complex are still open.
