Las Vegas morning update for Thursday, August 31st — VIDEO

Here are your Thursday morning headlines:

1. DNA and fingerprint evidence was used to link two women to a fatal shooting back in January. The two women are accused of murder in the deadly home-invasion of a 59-year-old man who was shot and killed during a robbery. Police say forensic analysis from a handgun and New England Patriots baseball cap linked the two women to the crime.

2. The Clark County School District has enacted a hiring freeze in light of a budget deficit that may require $70 million to $80 million in cuts. The freeze covers all nonessential positions, including open teaching and support staff jobs. The School Board could discuss whether to end the freeze at its Sept. 14 meeting.

3. Passengers looking to get away for Labor Day weekend might see new security procedures at McCarran. Today, TSA will introduce an automated screening system that will process travelers faster through Terminal 3. Three reconfigured security lanes will have upgraded features, with bins that are 25 percent larger and capable of holding roll-aboard luggage. The new system also automatically returns bins to the passenger station.
