Mail carrier killed in 3-vehicle crash in east valley

A 62-year-old U.S Postal Service carrier died in a three-vehicle crash in the east valley Saturday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

It happened about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Owens Avenue and Mount Hood Road, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

Police said a 61-year-old woman in a 2103 Nissan Altima ran a stop sign, hit the 1994 Grumman mail truck, causing it to overturn and eject the man. The Altima continued and hit a parked 2000 Chevrolet Malibu.

The driver of the Altima and her 79-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries and were taken to University Medical Center, police said.

At the scene, the mail truck was seen resting on its roof. A sheet covered its driver as Postal Service employees arrived.
