Man accused of killing his mom in the south valley arrested

A 36-year-old man who Las Vegas police have been looking for since Thursday has been arrested in connection with his mother’s death.

David John Dinunzio was booked Monday on charges of open murder and robbery, jail logs show.

Police say he strangled his mother, 62-year-old Francine Dinunzio, who was found dead at the Copper Creek Apartments, 9400 of Bermuda Road, near the intersection of Serene Avenue, at 12:22 p.m.

Police said the man has an "extensive" history of domestic violence and drug use. His mother had sought a restraining order against her son but recently allowed him to stay with her, police said.

David Dinunzio made a few troubling phone calls to friends and family that prompted police to conduct a welfare search and found the door to the apartment already unlocked, police said.

He is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. He is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
