Man arrested in landlords’ killings was in process of moving

A man arrested in the shooting deaths of his landlords was in the process of moving out of a small house on their northwest valley property, according to a Las Vegas police report made public Monday.

Mark Carpenter, 47, was arrested Friday at Santa Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Dr., on two counts of murder with a deadly weapon in the deaths of Gary Cravish, 62, and Bonny Cravish, 56.

The Cravishes were found dead in a bedroom of their home in the 4800 block of North Tioga Way, near the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Buffalo Drive.

Carpenter was renting a small house on the couple’s residential lot, police said. The Cravishes lived in a large house at the front of the property.

Their daughter, Carrie Cravish, called police Thursday after she found her parents dead, the police report said. She told police that Carpenter was a black jack dealer at the Red Rock Resort and that he collected guns.

Carpenter is a gun collector, the daughter said in the police report, and keeps firearms in the house he rented and a trailer on the same lot, the arrest report shows. One of those guns included a gun he called “The Judge,” a .45 caliber pistol that can also fire .410 shotgun shells.

He was in the process of moving out of the small house and into the trailer, the daughter said in the police report, so she and her boyfriend could move into the small house.

Carpenter told police he shot the couple with The Judge over a dispute but did not say what it was over, according to the report.

Carpenter is scheduled to appear in Clark County justice court on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
