Man faces life in prison for sexual attacks on young girls

A 39-year-old Las Vegas man has been convicted of sexual assault of two young girls.

Prosecutors said Jerby Reyes attacked a 9-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl. He also tried to attack the 4-year-old’s mother. Prosecutors said he attacked the 9-year-old in 2006 and the 4-year-old and her mother in 2012. Reyes was indicted on the charges in July 2012.

Though the attacks occurred nearly six years apart, prosecutors decided to try them together because the facts were so similar.

After seven days of trial, a Clark County jury convicted Reyes late Thursday on two counts of sexual assault with a minor under 14, two counts of lewdness with a child under 14, and two counts of coercion.

District Judge James Bixler ordered Reyes held in the Clark County Detention Center without bail. The judge is scheduled to sentence Reyes in December, when he faces between 35 years to life in prison for each child rape victim.
