Metro investigating domestic-related homicide in west valley

Las Vegas police are investigating a "domestic-related" homicide at a west valley townhouse, according to Metro.

Officers were sent at 5:47 p.m. Wednesday to the home at 1133 Plantation Court, near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Tenaya Way, the department's dispatch log showed.

A woman had asked police to visit the home to check on her ex-husband and son because she hadn't heard from either of them, homicide detective Sgt. Matthew Sanford said at the scene Wednesday night.

"She suspected that her son, who was having some (mental) issues, may have done something to himself or his father," Sanford said.

Arriving officers found the woman's ex-husband, who police described as a man in his 40s, and their son, who police said is under 18, lying on the floor of the townhouse's garage, Sanford said.

The man was dead. Metro wouldn't say what types of wounds he suffered.

The son initially didn't respond to questions from emergency personnel, and it was unclear if he was conscious, Sanford said, but as of 9:30 p.m. homicide detectives were interviewing him in custody.

"As of right now, I don't know of any past (domestic) incidents at this residence," Sanford said, but the investigation was ongoing. "We'll be here for several hours."
