Mother accuses Metro of negligence in fatal 2013 chase

A Henderson woman claims Las Vegas police caused her son's 2013 death by "pursuing a chase negligently and recklessly."

Angela Lucero is representing herself in a lawsuit filed Nov. 10 on behalf of her son's estate.

Anthony Lucero, 22, of Henderson, crashed his motorcycle and died after evading police on Nov. 10, 2013, in east Las Vegas.

Police said he sped up when an officer tried to stop him on Charleston Boulevard near Tree Line Drive for riding an unregistered motorcycle.

Anthony Lucero ran multiple red lights on Charleston, with the officer following, and finally crashed into a vehicle turning left at Linn Lane, police said. Anthony Lucero was pronounced dead at the scene.

Angela Lucero's lawsuit, filed in Clark County District Court, accuses the Metropolitan Police Department and the unidentified officer of negligence.

"Due to the officer's poor judgment in pursuing a chase negligently and recklessly against Lucero, the officer ultimately is responsible for the death of Lucero," the complaint alleges.

No one at Metro could be reached for comment on the lawsuit.
