Motorcyclist seriously hurt trying to avoid traffic stop

A speeding motorcyclist trying to avoid a traffic stop Thursday morning near Flamingo Road and Rainbow Boulevard was critically injured after he crashed, Las Vegas police said.

At 10:16 a.m., officers tried to stop a motorcyclist riding an unregistered bike when he sped off, crashing near the Ravenwood Drive and the North Spring Valley Parkway intersection a short while after, police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

The motorcyclist was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries, Meltzer said.

Metro’s accident investigators later said the man was in critical condition.

Witness statements indicated the 23-year-old man was riding a 2002 Suzuki GSXR 750 south on Ravenwood approaching a “T” intersection at Spring Valley Parkway. Police believe the man was speeding.

The rider ran off the right side of the road onto the west sidewalk of Ravenwood, separated from the motorcycle and slid on the sidewalk until striking a stop sign on the northwest corner of the intersection.

This collision remains under investigation by the Metro’s accident investigation section.
