U-Haul: Moving trucks arriving in Nevada decline year over year

Updated September 30, 2025 - 11:26 pm

U-Haul arrivals to the Silver State fell last year compared with 2023, dropping Nevada dramatically in the moving truck company’s Growth Index, from 11th to 35th.

Nevada had registered as a net-gain state (with more U-Haul arrivals than departures) in four of the previous five years, according to the U-Haul report.

South Carolina was the top growth state last year for moves into the state, according to U-Haul, followed by Texas and North Carolina. The company said it tracked more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul truck rentals to produce the data.

The top three origin states for arriving U-Haul customers to Las Vegas (excluding other Nevada areas) were California, Arizona and Utah. The top three origin metro areas for arriving U-Haul customers to Las Vegas (from outside Nevada) were Los Angeles, Phoenix and the Bay Area (San Francisco/San Jose areas), U-Haul reported.

On the flip side, U-Haul said the top destinations for people leaving Las Vegas included Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, Calif., Sacramento and Phoenix.

Other states that saw a big slide in the rankings include Colorado and New Mexico.
