No injuries reported in fire that displaced 6 people, 4 dogs

Six people and four dogs were displaced from their home after a fire Monday afternoon in the west valley, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 3:32 p.m. to 3262 Rassler Avenue, near Torrey Pines Drive and Washington Avenue, department spokesman Tim Szymanski said in a release Monday evening.

Crews found that the blaze was on the outside of the house and had extended to the attic. The fire was extinguished in 11 minutes, the release said.

Fire investigators believe the fire was accidental, Szymanski wrote in the release.

“An exact cause of the fire could not be determined, but careless smoking could not be ruled out,” Szymanski said in the release. The outside of the house was littered with cigarette butts, Szymanski said, one of which could have been blown by the wind toward combustible materials. Trash was located near the origin of the fire, he said.

Damage to the attic and an outside door was estimated at $25,000. The interior of the home was not damaged, Szymanski said.

The American Red Cross is assisting six adults and four dogs displaced by the fire. No one was injured.
