One man dead after possible drive-by shooting south of Rainbow Curve
February 4, 2016 - 4:12 pm
A man was shot dead Thursday afternoon on South Rainbow Boulevard, just off the Rainbow Curve, police said.
Officers responded to the Westcliff Drive intersection at 12:30 p.m. where they found the man dead on scene, Metropolitan Police Department officer Jesse Roybal said. The shots may have been fired from a vehicle.
Elvira Cozzens was in the area just before the shooting. When said that when she heard the gunshots, people at the southeast Chevron station ducked, "because obviously they heard the same thing I did."
After the shooting, she glanced over and saw what may have been the suspected shooter's vehicle: a silver, older-model four-door, possibly a Toyota.
She said two people were in the car during the shooting. They sped off right in front of her, running a red light.
"They were very fast," she said. "I was trying to get their license plate."
Cozzens said she told police what she saw.
"I just feel terrible," she said.
As of Thursday afternoon, police had not confirmed details about a possible suspect.
The coroner's office will release the man's identity once his family has been notified.
