Man in wheelchair hit by vehicle in central Las Vegas

Las Vegas police are investigating a Sunday night crash involving a pedestrian in the central valley.

A man using a wheelchair was hit by a car about 8:30 p.m. near Martin Luther King and Lake Mead boulevards, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon said.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after the crash on Lake Mead near Lexington Street, police said.

He was crossing Lake Mead Boulevard in an implied crosswalk when he was hit by an eastbound four-door Hyundai sedan, Sgt. Paul McCullough said.

McCullough, with Metro’s fatal traffic unit, said the driver didn’t appear impaired and remained on scene. He said the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.

Lake Mead was temporarily closed in both directions between Martin Luther King and Concord Street while police investigated.
