Police: Man in barricade dies in apparent suicide

A barricade situation near downtown Las Vegas ended in a man’s apparent suicide on Thursday, according to Metro.

Las Vegas and SWAT responded to a home at 805 N. First St. just after 1 p.m. Thursday where a man locked himself inside, possibly with a weapon, said Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer.

Police received two calls around the same time, one of which described a domestic dispute between two people in the area. The second call was from a family member who said the man was locked inside the home and possibly had a weapon. That caller also reported hearing at least one gunshot, Meltzer said.

When officers entered the residence several hours later, they found the man dead. He had apparently killed himself, said Metro spokesman Lt. Ken Romane.

The identity of the man will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Several homes on First Street were evacuated, Meltzer said, and roads in the immediate area, near First Street between Bonanza Road and Washington Avenue, were closed until the barricade ended.
