Police release details in west Las Vegas Valley homicide

Las Vegas police released a few new details Tuesday about a west valley shooting that happened over the weekend.

Just after 8 p.m., officers went to the 1600 block of Broadmere Street, near Charleston Boulevard and Hualapai Way, where they found 48-year-old Monty Gibson lying dead in the doorway of a house. Gibson died of gunshot wounds to the chest and head, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

During the investigation, Gibson’s roommate told officers that two men kicked in the front door of the house and started firing. One of the two residents returned fire, though it wasn’t clear which one.

Police said two men fled the scene. One was a 32-year-old, and police found him near the scene with a gunshot wound. He was taken to University Medical Center. Police have not released his name.

The second suspect hadn’t been found as of Tuesday afternoon.
