Remains found on I-15 not human, police say

What appeared to be human remains found Monday afternoon on Interstate 15 were determined to be animal remains, police said.

About 1:30 p.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol received reports of human remains on Interstate 15 near mile marker 22, spokeswoman Chelsea Stuenkel said.

The highway patrol notified the Metropolitan Police Department about 1:40 p.m., Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said. Metro’s homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene to investigate the remains, but determined the remains were not human. Dispatch logs indicate the remains had been decomposing, Meltzer said.

The remains were found about 3 miles south of Sloan, Meltzer said.

“Many times, especially if it has been out there for a while, it can be difficult to tell,” Meltzer said.
